Seasonal Pool Tips

Fall & Winter:

Fall Foliage
Check Skimmers twice a day during heavy leaf fall.

Pump & Filtration Systems
The pool require less filtration than in summer months, time your filtration with your freeze protection and you will cover your filtration requirements for that day. Summer operational hours should be 10 – 12 hrs a day and fall & winter would be 6 – 4 hrs a day.

Chlorine Adjustments
Cooling weather = less demand of Chlorine production especially with Salt Water Systems. We advise our clients to decrease the summer setting to the desired chlorine level is achieved. Once the pool water cools to 55 degrees, the Jandy Salt System automatically ceases chlorine production and will display an LO code for low water temperature. Your pool does not require any chlorine for water temperature 55 & below, however if you are utilizing your spa frequently we recommend small amounts of chlorine being added directly to the spa prior to use (1/2 cup of liquid bleach is fine).

PH & Alkalinity
You should continue to monitor and balance PH (ideal range 7.4 to 7.6 ppm) and (alkalinity ideal range is 80-100 ppm).

Freeze Conditions
All Aloha Pools built since 2003 are automatically protected from freeze damage provided electrical power is available.

Event of Power Failure Longer than 3 hours (during freezing conditions)

  • Pump, Filter & Heater drain plugs pulled to prevent freeze damage
  • Pump has 2 Drain Plugs
  • Filter has 1 large Drain Plug on Back Bottom
  • Heater has 2 Brass Drain Plugs on left side (requires 9/16th wrench)
  • Also consult Jandy Manuals or Technical link for Jandy for specific instructions
